Q: What are varicose & spider veins?
|

A: Varicose veins are dilated enlarged veins underneath
the skin of the legs. While mainly a cosmetic problem they may cause fatigue and

Q: Is there treatment for veins on the face?
|

A: Facial veins on the cheeks, nose and chin respond
well to sclerotherapy. There is minimal swelling and cosmetic improvement is usually
apparent in 1-2 weeks.

Q: How is sclerotherapy performed?
|
|
A: The veins are injected with a chemical solution
that results in scarring of the diseased vein segment. Blood is then rerouted through
the healthy veins.

Q: How many treatments are required?
|
|
A: 2-4 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart are common. However,
fewer or more treatments may be required depending on an individual?s needs.

Q: Is the procedure painful?
|
|
A: Most patients experience minimal discomfort.

Q: Are there any risks?
|

A: All medical treatments entail a certain degree of
risk. This will be discussed during your consultation. With sclerotherapy treatment

Q: Once treated, will the veins come back?

A: Successfully treated veins will not reappear. However,
new ones may develop in the future.

Q: What about activity after treatment?
|
|
A: Activity without restriction is encouraged. Hot
baths and Jacuzzi tubs are discouraged until healing is complete. You may return
to work the same day.

Q: What tests are required?
|
|
A: An ultrasound examination of the venous system in
the legs is performed when appropriate prior to treatment.
|
|
|
|
Q: Will my legs be bandaged?
|
|
A: With larger veins, bandages or compression stockings
will be required. Smaller veins require overnight compression bandages only.
|

A: EVLT is a quick, minimally invasive laser procedure
